Chair Massage

Never had a massage before? This is the perfect chance to give it a test drive. If you already know the pleasures and benefits of massage. Wouldn’t it be nice to experience this therapeutic touch more often to combat the rigors of daily stress?

Chair massage is done fully clothed and is a massage to the upper body. Chair massages are short around 10-15 minutes or so, and are done to help with relaxation and circulation.

Relaxation Massage

Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and relaxing. If you've never had massage before, this is a good one to try first. The massage therapist uses long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. It's active and passive movements of the joints promote general relaxation, improve circulation and range of motion, and relieve muscle tension. Swedish massage is often given as a complete, full body technique where all the major muscle groups are covered, though sometimes only a part of the body is worked on. The recipient of a Swedish massage may be completely undressed or remain in underwear. The therapist leaves most of the body draped by a sheet or cover, exposing only the area to be massaged. This is the most common type of massage in the United States. It is also known as Swedish massage or simply Massage therapy.

Swedish massage can:

  • Relax muscles.
  • Improve circulation without increasing heart load.
  • Increase range of motion.
  • Help the recipient obtain a better awareness of their body and the way they use and position it.
  • Relieve pain and discomfort associated with muscle tension, fractures, sprains, sciatica, and stiff joints.
  • Shorten recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes.
  • Stretch the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple.
  • Stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves.
  • Help to reduce emotional and physical stress.
  • It is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management, and can be used in clinical settings as medical or remedial therapy.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.

Will A Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?

It shouldn't hurt, but it's likely to be a bit more uncomfortable than a classic Swedish massage. Please communicate with the Therapist about your level of comfort with the pressure being used. Here is a good rule of thumb -- on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is no pain and 10 is extremely painful, the pressure should always be less than 5.

How Fast Will I Get Results With A Deep Tissue Massage?

It's important to be realistic about what one massage can achieve. Many people ask for more pressure, thinking that if the therapist just pushes hard enough, they can get rid of all their knots in an hour. This just won't happen. In fact, undoing chronic knots and tension built up over a lifetime is best achieved with an integrated program that includes exercise, work on your posture and ways of moving, relaxation techniques and a regular program of massage.
